Why Does My Rug Have Stripes?
The term “Abrash” describes the natural look variations of fibers and colors, it is not considered a defect.
Sheep have different types of hair and just like a human can have different types hair fibers, looks and shades or how the hair hold a color. The hair/fibers change texture with the seasons.
Different dye lots can also change as the natural dye components are always slightly different.
Abrash is seen in almost every rug however is generally more prominent in tribal rugs as the plants and insects used for the different colors of dyes vary. Those rugs produced more in cities and factories have much larger batches of dyes and the colors can be more controlled.
