What Are All These White Knots In My Rug?
100% wool does not always mean 100% wool. That’s right, most rugs actually have a foundation made from cotton with wool face yarns. The warp and the weft foundation fibers made of cotton sometimes break and a new piece is tied on or when one roll of cotton fiber runs out a new one is tied on to make it continuous.
These are foundation knots and are normal of the construction process. They are always there only sometimes more visible. They are sometimes more visible with a cleaning as they have been hidden by the dirt prior to cleaning.
